We warmly welcome you to our restaurant in the heart of Ypres, on the Menenstraat. With a unique nautical interior, from the helm on the wall to the captain’s paintings, we bring the spirit of adventure and discovery to the dinner table.

We serve Italian, French, Mediterranean and Belgian cuisine.
You have a wide choice of dishes, and we also offer special vegetarian and vegan options (gluten-free and more).

With us, every visit is a true adventure: from the moment you step inside until you finish with a lovely cup of coffee and a homemade dessert.

2014

The doors open

Captain Cook opens its doors on the Menenstraat in Ypres. A new address for convivial meals in a warm nautical setting. A dream come true.

First Certificate of Excellence

2018

Renovation & new interior

The restaurant gets a thorough refresh. The signature interior with captain’s paintings and map wall is extended and embellished.

2022

Expanding group events

We specialise further in group bookings: company outings, school groups, family celebrations and theme nights become a mainstay.

Ten years of Captain Cook

Ten years after opening, we look back on a decade full of adventures, guests and beautiful stories, and look ahead with appetite to what comes next.

The story behind the name

From Whitby
to Ypres

Every name carries a story. Ours comes from James Cook, the British explorer who learned to sail in the rugged harbour town of Whitby, on the Yorkshire coast, and from there braved the oceans of the world.

To find the soul behind that name, Guler and Mohamed set out themselves. In Whitby, among fishing boats, sea air and centuries-old captains’ tales, they found exactly the atmosphere they wanted to bring home: adventure, hospitality, and the warmth of a good table after a long journey.

That atmosphere lives on in Ypres today. From the helm on the wall to the sea charts and captain’s paintings: Captain Cook is our own little home port, a tribute to a man who was never afraid to set sail.
